Laboratory of Fish Ecophysiology

The laboratory of Fish Ecophysiology was set up in 2017 by Prof. Dr. Md Shahjahan. The works in this laboratory mainly includes the analyses of the impacts of environmental (temperature, light, salinity etc.) and anthropogenic (pesticides, heavy metals etc.) factors on fish physiology, especially on growth and reproduction. In the laboratory, we use the physiological parameters of blood as biomarkers and a number of molecular techniques like real time PCR. The laboratory is equipped with several experimental ponds and a wet laboratory, where fish are reared and treated in different size of aquaria and cemented tanks. Zebrafish (Danio rerio), Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), Indian major carp rohu (Labeo rohita), striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) and common carp (Cyprinus carpio) are used as model experimental fish.
